Don’t Just Shape up for Summer, Shape up for the Whole Year!

Getting in shape for the summer months is like a ritual; it’s a sign that the winter months are finally over and that there is finally something bright to look forward to and work towards. But why just shape up for one part of the year, why not shape up for the whole of it? Most people find that the hot weather months are the only time of the year when they can keep their beach bodies looking up to scratch, but this doesn’t necessarily have to be the truth. Below you can find a few ways to keep fit ALL year round.

run-1290022_1280

However, this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t use the summer as your focal point for your current training regime, because you most definitely should considering how close on the horizon it is; you should seek to set a series of short-term goals throughout the changing seasons, and your first should be for the summer. You should seek to use your summer holiday as your first bit of inspiration in your goal of optimising your physical potential for this year and you can start by buying yourself a nice new bathing suit that is a few sizes smaller than you currently are.

Buying it and hanging it in a place where you are most likely to work out in your home is a great source of inspiration to get yourself down to a size where you can fit in it. Using a guide such as Kayla Itsines BBG, you can find all the workout and nutritional guides that are needed in order to achieve the ultimate beach body and to be able to fit into that beautiful new bathing suit. And once your holiday and the summer is over, you should seek to find yourself a new short-term goal to work towards; whether that means cutting more weight or maintaining the one you have gotten yourself down to. For instance, you could again buy yourself a piece of clothing, like a little black dress, that would like nice at any New Year’s Eve parties you’ve been invited to.

And when the winter does in fact roll around again, you shouldn’t let the weather stop you from getting out and getting active. Yes, this may sound easier said than done, so why not go to a place where it’ll be easiest for you to find the inspiration needed to remain active? A change in scenery at this time of the year is never a bad idea, so a good idea is to book a warm weather winter retreat. Here, you could run outside to your heart’s content without having to worry about your fingers dropping off because of frostbite.

And once back home (if you do decide to come home) you can carry on the avoidance of the weather by taking to taking your fitness regime inside. You could utilise a local running track, sign up to a local spin class or even seek a gym membership. The bad weather is never an excuse for letting your summer beach body disappear, don’t let it be one!

As well as the weather, the fact that a fitness regime can quickly become boring is also a reason why people tend to forgo consistent workout regimes. It is easy to give up on a workout cycle if it gets boring, at which point you should aim to spice up your workout regime. This could be achieved by mixing cardio with strength training. Doing so not only means you are tweeting your regime, but it also means that you are getting the very most out of every session you do. You could even attempt a whole new style of workout, such as yoga, kickboxing or Pilates, Zumba or any other kind of dancing. It’s important to constantly find a workout that is not only stimulating your health, but stimulating your attention also.

Simply put: if you’re not enjoying a workout anymore you will sooner than later begin to become lackadaisical when attempting it, which, if left unprevented, will mean that your beach body shape will become lost.

What can also be detrimental to the maintaining of the perfect shape all year round is injury. You may think that these can’t be prevented, but they can, if you take the correct precautions before and after each workout. It is easy to allow for injury to cause a prolonged absence when it comes to even the strictest of workout regimes, and it is even easier for them to destroy your enthusiasm to pick up where you left before the injury, which is why you should be trying to avoid injuries at all times. Ways to do so include: warming up and cooling down for up to 10 minutes before and after each workout, never train to a point where you are overusing certain areas and aspects of your body and listening to your body at all times.

Of course, injuries do sometimes happen regardless of how many precautions you take — if you ever do suffer an injury-based lay-off from your regime, then it may be a good idea to hire a personal trainer when you are first able to train again just to make sure that you are going to hit the ground running again straight away.

In order to retain a certain shape the whole year round, you really need to make the maintaining of it a lifestyle choice, and there is no better way to do so than by jumping into a career that will keep you in the best health. By choosing going down a career path that induces a lot of activity, sometimes without you even realising it, is a great way to not only shape up but to stay shaped up. For more advice on how you can have a beach ready body the whole year round, make sure to click here. For now, make sure to buy a nice little bathing suit and do your utmost in order to be able to wear it with pride on whatever beach you are heading to this summer!

4 Hacks To Make Your Nose The Best Feature On Your Face

You will be surprised how many girls hate their nose. The size and shape often leave girls shuddering when they look in the mirror. In fact, it’s one of the biggest beauty worries women have in their life. However, there are some ways you can tweak your nose so that it becomes your favorite thing about your face. Here are four hacks to make it the best feature on your face.

Use powder

You might be surprised to know that you can alter the look of your nose by just using makeup. If you want a beautiful nose that you love, powder should be your new best friend. By applying powder to the sides, it will make your nose look much slimmer than it actually is. It’s best to buy a product which is specific for contouring such as a sculpting powder to ensure you pull off the best look. Just make sure you don’t put too much on the bridge of your nose, as it will stand out like a sore thumb on your face. Here is some more advice for slimming down your nose!

Get a piercing

You could also get a nose piercing that will soon make you love your nose. It will distract you from the size and shape of your nose as you will just see the piercing when you look in the mirror. And nobody will be drawn to the cute piercing, rather than the look of your nose. You can find some beautiful nose rings and studs which will help your nose to look fantastic once you have your nasal pierced. Just make sure you get a professional to complete the piercing for you; a nose infection is never pretty and is very painful!

Consider rhinoplasty

If your nose is really getting you down, you could also consider getting a form of surgery to alter your nose. The most well-known surgery to alter your nose is rhinoplasty. A lot of celebrities have admitted to having it done recently, including Reality TV star Ferne McCann and Olympian Rebecca Adlington. It can help girls who find their nose to be too small or large. Or it can be ideal if you want to change the angle of your nose. The procedure sees incisions being made to rearrange or reshape the bone. The nose job cost, plus the pain involved in the procedure, puts some girls off. After all, it can take up to 10 days recovery time. But it can often leave girls smiling when they finally see the final result.

Do some nose exercises

It might seem silly, but there are some exercises out there which can make your nose look better on your face! Apparently, doing facial exercises such as the nose shortener can really improve the look of your nose! This is where you press one finger on the tip of your nose and then exert downward pressure! Here are some other facial exercises which are meant to make a difference to the look of your nose!

Remember to make sure you keep on top of moisturising your nose when taking care of your face. Spots on your nose is never a good look!

What to Expect After Breast Lift Surgery

shutterstock_147197246

Any type of surgery involves recovery that must be handled carefully to obtain the best results with the least discomfort. If you’re about to undergo breast lift surgery – or mastopexy – here’s some tips to let you know what to expect and how to deal with it.

Immediately after surgery

As mastopexy involves incisions, there’ll be some pain. The pain levels vary between individuals, but many patients are surprised by how tolerable it is. To help you to get through the first few days easily, it’s a good idea to plan ahead.

  • A lot of post-mastopexy pain is down to swelling, so buying two or three compression bras (in three different sizes, as the swelling subsides quite quickly) before the operation will be helpful;
  • Preparing cold compresses is also a good idea. Applying the compress for too long or too frequently can interfere with healing. There are specialised compress packs for breast surgery patients, but you can also use regular ice packs;
  • Elevation is important. You should prepare your bed before you go into hospital so that you’ll be sleeping at an angle of 25-45 degrees; this helps to reduce swelling and improve circulation in the breast area.

Sort out pain relief beforehand

Although everyone’s pain varies, your surgeon will have a good idea of what to expect, so discuss it and get your prescriptions ready.

Discuss scarring

You will have some scars, so ask where and how big they’ll be. Surgeons aim to make incisions under the breast crease only, but this isn’t always possible. A good surgeon, like Gary Ross, who has performed many a mastopexy in Manchester, will explain where the scars will be and why.

Immediately after surgery the incisions will seem prominent, but they will fade, especially if you care for them after they’ve healed.

  • Don’t smoke! Even one cigarette a day can have an adverse effect on healing and increase the chances of infection. You should aim to quit before surgery and to avoid cigarettes afterwards;
  • Eat properly – you should eat well, with extra protein, and take a multi-vitamin to aid healing;
  • Avoid the sun as this can make scars darker. If you do go topless in the sun, wear a high-factor sunscreen over the scars.

Over-the-counter scar treatments

Only consider these once the incisions have closed, and only use with your surgeon’s approval. There are many oils and creams on offer, as well as silicone sheets, and these can help to reduce the prominence and redness of post-surgery scars.

Specialised bras

These aren’t necessary for mastopexy, but you will probably want some degree of compression immediately after surgery. You’ll be wearing a surgical bra after the op until you have your first shower on the second post-operative day and you can wash and replace this one, or wear a similar sports bra with wide straps. You’ll want to avoid underwired bras.

Post-operative exercise

Avoid exercise for the first week and make a plan with your surgeon to ease you back into your old regime over a period of six weeks.

How effective are hair loss treatments?

c8571c63a85a17f1f28fe0e3d0fce670

Hair loss treatments throughout the ages have ranged from the ineffectual to the downright daft. From lotions made of animal fat to warming devices designed to be worn on the head, there have been a host of speculative ‘cures’ for this common condition. However, things have moved on and as long as you know what to look for, it’s now possible to find treatments that really do work. If you have male-pattern baldness and you want to halt or even reverse this process, it’s worth considering the following two options.

Propecia

A genetic condition, male-pattern baldness is caused by hair follicles becoming more sensitive to a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This results in follicles shrinking, weakening and eventually dying. The most effective treatment for the condition is finasteride, which is better known under the brand name Propecia. Taken in tablet form, this prescription medicine blocks the effects of DHT. In many cases, the treatment slows down hair loss and some people even find it reserves the process. You can get Propecia online from pharmacies or you can access it in high street pharmacy outlets.

Trials have shown that among people aged 18 to 41, Propecia slowed or reversed hair loss in 90 per cent of cases. Around two-thirds of those who take it benefit from hair regrowth and the treatment halts further hair loss in the majority of men who use it. However, it’s important to be aware that it can be several months before positive results are seen and hair loss usually resumes within eight months if the treatment is discontinued.

Minoxidil

Another option is the lotion minoxidil. Applied daily to the scalp, it can also help to slow or reverse the balding process. It’s not known precisely how this treatment works and it is not considered to be as effective as finasteride, but research has found that around half of men who use it experience a slowing of their hair loss, while 15 per cent see some regrowth. Like finasteride, it generally has to be used for a number of months before effects are seen. Also, if the treatment is stopped, hair loss usually resumes.

These two treatments might not cure male-pattern baldness, but they can certainly go a long way to lessening its effects. If you want to find out more about them and discover if they’re right for you, you can do some research online or speak to a doctor or pharmacist.

How to Nail Your DIY Wedding Makeup

There’s a lot that goes into a wedding, from the big things to the larger details. Since weddings have become so expensive, and also because being creative is fun, DIY weddings are on the rise. Which a few of decades ago probably just would have been called “weddings”! I love all things DIY when it come to weddings. You get a chance to let out your creative side, it saves you money, and it gives you somewhere to put all your excited energy. Style is a big part of the wedding day, from the groom’s tux to the bridesmaids’ hair. Some brides choose to add a DIY element to their wedding by forgoing a professional makeup artist. If you would rather do it yourself, here’s how you can pull it off.

Finding a Look

The first step is something you need to do regardless of whether you use a makeup artist. You need to find a beautiful look that suits you and your bridesmaids. It might be a slightly easier task when you’ve got a makeup artist to help you out. But you don’t need a professional to show you pictures for inspiration. You do need to have a certain level of skill to try some things out, though. Remember that you need to try them on your bridesmaids too. They don’t have to have the same makeup as you, but you might want it to be similar. One thing you need to think about is who is doing their makeup. Will one of them be in charge or will they all do it themselves? You certainly don’t want to have to do it for them!

Buying the Makeup

When you’ve settled on a look you want to use, you need to make sure you have the makeup for it. You might already have some suitable bits and pieces that you used for experimenting. But maybe you had a makeup artist help you out, and now you need to buy everything you need to do it yourself. It should be as easy as going to your favourite makeup shop to find what you need. Sometimes finding the exact shade you want or products that will last you all day is hard. If you want to make sure your wedding day makeup is up to the standards of a makeup artist, try looking for professional products. They won’t cost you a lot more, and they’ll make a difference.

Getting It Done on the Day

When the big day comes, you might be in a panic about getting everything done. The most important thing to do is worry about yourself first. Get your makeup done, whether you’re doing it or a friend or family member is doing it for you. Your bridesmaids should be responsible for doing their own makeup too, whether one person is in charge or they all do it individually. Just make sure they all know what they’re doing!

Don’t be afraid of doing your makeup on your wedding day. If you do a lot in your daily life, you should be prepared. Even if you rarely wear makeup, there’s time to practice what you want to do.

Review: Dolce Dolce&Gabbana

Dolce-Fragrance Dolce-gabbana-fragrance

Dolce has a very resilient charm, shy to some extent but definitely beautiful. She’s that ultra-feminine friend who favors round skirts and mid-heels with pointy toes, pearls and cashmere cardigans. She’s a classic, sophisticated middle-aged beauty who gets what she wants not by showing a lot of décolletage but by her old world charm. Don’t get me wrong, she can be flirt when she needs to be. Her appeal is subdued.
Seriously there’s nothing not to love about this scent. It is a clean floral that’s doesn’t get heady or too strong. I usually favor the more grown up appeal of Narciso Rodriguez and the lovely french charm of Chloe by Chloe but Dolce could stand on it’s own in my perfume wardrobe. Having to favor scents with roses, the Dolce is a breath of fresh air, yes it’s partly aquatic and I also love aquatic scents but the true beauty of a Dolce is it’s muted charm. The Silllage is quite average, of which I’m fine with . You won’t easily recognize the scent unlike Light Blue, but again I don’t want people to know right away what perfume I’m wearing. As I just past my early 20s, I need something like Dolce in my closet. Just the right amount of sweetness, and I believe subtlety is it’s true essence.

Thinking about a Career in Skin Care? Esthetician’s Explained

face

If you’re interested in helping people have clear, glowing skin and giving them professional makeup, look into a career in esthetics. Whenever you’re helping someone look their best or applying makeup for a special event, skin care is the first step. You can get into this beauty career and learn industry techniques by going through an esthetics (skin care) program. So what is a skin care career all about?

face2

Career Options

As a licensed esthetician, you have many career options. You can work as the esthetician at a salon or beauty spa. In the medical field, dermatology offices, medical spas and plastic surgery centers have a place for this profession. Or if you’re more interested in the makeup side of this career, you can use your license to become a professional makeup artist. Then, you can work in a cosmetics store, at a department store, at a salon or with private clients who are getting ready for weddings or other special events. Beyond working hands-on with clients, you could always use your skills and knowledge in a career as a beauty writer or as a creator of skin care and makeup videos.

Your Job Duties

Your job duties can be somewhat different depending on the career path you choose. For example, you might focus more on makeup as a makeup artist or more on skin care as the esthetician in a spa. Nonetheless, there are many aspects to this profession that you learn and can use in a variety of situations. When you go through an esthetics (skin care) program, you learn to analyze your clients’ skin so you can give recommendations and know how to treat each person’s individual skin. You’ll also learn about exfoliating the skin to take away the old skin cells and create a fresh, healthy layer. Giving facials is another important part of the job. You can give different types of facials, including manual and chemical ones, as well as electrical ones that tighten the skin for a more youthful appearance.

Helping People

Working as an esthetician can be a rewarding career where you see results and make people happy. You’ll be able to help your clients with skin problems and help them feel more confident and beautiful through clearer skin and makeup. You can help them get glowing skin and figure out the best skin care regimen for their specific needs. When people are getting ready for big events, you can give them skin treatments to make their skin look perfect, so they’ll look and feel great during their special occasion.

Following Skin Care Trends

With a profession in the beauty field, you’ll be following trends and keeping up with the latest techniques, products and styles. Whether people are going for a matte or dewy face, they want subtle makeup or bright colors, or they’re looking for the latest products, you’ll be the one they turn to for keeping them up to date.

Get The Reflection You Want With These Tips For Everyday Beauty Problems

When it comes to improving that reflection in the mirror, us girls will spend a fortune in money and hours in time. We can’t help it. We’re built that way. All of us want to look our very best, and when we see something we don’t like, we need to fix it, right away. Here are some of the fixes for everyday problems almost all of us encounter:

  • Skin – For blemishes, you can try a strong spot cream, or even dab on a tiny bit of acne preparation. The truth is, these things can damage skin over the long term, especially as you get older. Keep inflammation down with tea tree oil that can also help cleanse the area. If you have a skin tag, you can remove it easily in several different ways. It is usually best to do that, and you are unlikely to cause any harm. For a boil on your face, always see your doctor.

  • Hair – Hair removal is one of life’s biggest hassles. For the best finish, use hard wax. It removes everything in those small areas without risking skin infections. Of course, it needs to be done in the salon. Laser or light therapies do not provide permanent hair removal but can reduce the thicker hairs over time. To keep the hair on your head in good shape, choose a shampoo that looks after your scalp first. Your hair can be moisturized and nourished with a good conditioner. Always style after washing.
  • Nails – If your diet or health is poor, there is little you can do to improve your nails. It takes a couple of months for the signs of a poor diet to grow out. In the meantime, keep the short, and cover up the ridges with a good polish. Stick-on nails are better these days, but they can cause problems with troublesome nails. If you’re not a fan of nail salons, you can get a pretty good finish at home, but take care not to cause further problems.

9579740407_3dbd9c36aa_zThanks to Flickr for the pic

  • Signs of aging – Most can be improved with good night creams and moisturizers. Some may need something like a collagen injection to smooth the skin. Very few of us are happy to look our age! Keeping your body healthy and toned through exercises is always the preference. Wobbly bits come with age too I’m afraid. Cosmetic surgery is beneficial if your looks are essential to your income. But it is a lot of money and a lot of downtime after each surgery to recover.

Life is hard on our looks, but we can reduce the impact of age and environment by taking good care of our bodies. Finding good products to help you in your battle against aging is key to satisfaction. You may also want to learn some of the makeup tricks professionals use to reduce the signs of aging. Removing what you don’t like and improving your looks may seem vain. But it can be crucial to your emotional well-being to be happy with your reflection. Spend your time and your money on the things that matter most to you in life, and feel beautiful today.

Benefit POREfessional Primer Review

Benefit-The-Porefessional-Primer-Review-1 Benefit-The-Porefessional-Primer-Review-2 Benefit-The-Porefessional-Primer-Review-3

I like most people I’m sure, am always on the hunt for makeup which stays put, controls oil, waterproof etc. Whilst it can be hard to find a product which incorporates all of those things, I don’t mind settling for makeup which just stays put, minimises pores and keeps oil at bay which is what I get from the Benefit POREfessional Primer.

I first started off with a sample of the POREfessional from a magazine and once I started using it I quickly fell in love. Since finishing the sample I immediately had to purchase the full sized tube!

The primer admittedly feels a little like silicone but it blends into the skin flawlessly with a mattifying finish and Benefit are true to their word when they say it minimises the look of pores. My pores are largest around my nose area so this is where I concentrate my application on, and after I’ve blended the product in I can instantly see how diminished my pores look. I also dab a little on my forehead to mattify the area before applying my foundation.

In time I’ve also noticed that it does a good job of controlling my dry combination skin by minimising oil in all the right places (forehead and nose). There was a time I would feel the need to blot my skin with blotting papers quite regularly before using the primer but now I can’t even remember when I last had to do so!

The only downside I’ve noticed with the POREfessional is that it can cling to dry patches (something I often find with mattifying products) so I’d recommend only applying on areas where you actually need it.

The Benefit POREfessional Primer is £24.50 which is a little on the pricey side compared to a lot of high street brands, but a little does go a long way and if you’re like me and only require small amounts at a time any way this tube will last you a good while! You can buy the POREfessional from Benefit’s website, Boots and most department stores.

Do you currently use a primer in your makeup routine? What’s your favourite?

Review: Chanel Malice Nail Polish

Chanel-Malice-Nail-Polish-Review-1 Chanel-Malice-Nail-Polish-Review-2 Chanel-Malice-Nail-Polish-Review-4 Chanel-Malice-Nail-Polish-Review-5

Malice is the most beautiful vampy, deep burgundy with a ruby red twist and plenty of gorgeous shimmer! It comes with a brush just wide enough so you can cover your nail in just a few strokes. I would prefer a slightly larger handle though as the small lid makes it difficult to hold on to at times. Aside from this, Malice applies like a dream and 1 coat is enough to provide perfect opacity which I what I look out for when I’m buying new polishes.

The only bad side about this lovely nail polish is… You’ve guessed it, the price tag. At £18 this is definitely my most expensive polish to date. I don’t normally splurge this much on nail polish since there are more than plenty of decent high street offerings out there, BUT Malice is a shade not to be missed!

So what do you think of Malice? Have you tried any other Chanel nail polishes before?
